The study of the book of Judges is very important in our spiritual walk. This book was written after the beginning of Saul’s reign, before David’s reign over Jerusalem, and covers the period of time from the death of Joshua until the establishment of King Saul. Its content centers on the condition of God’s people during this time that consists of the following cycle: obedience and rest, rebellion and apostasy, divine judgment, repentance, and deliverance by a judge. This book is not only historical but also prophetic. It explains the importance of rules and authority in our lives, and points out the manner in which we can be delivered from our personal bonds. We will understand that the essence of a life in obedience the Lord lies in our love toward God and our neighbor. And if love is what motivates us, we will please the Lord.
