We usually link the offerings and sacrifices of the priests to something negative—death, blood, loss, and destruction. However, the biblical concept of offering denotes a path of drawing near to God that brings a spiritual and moral awakening that helps us lead a pure and holy life before the Lord. In other words, though we may find in the offerings death to the obstacles that hinder our drawing near to God, they produce spiritual life and allow us to find grace before the eyes of the Lord.

As Christians, it is important to learn to offer sacrifices that are acceptable to God, in such a way that we prepare for the ministry of the priesthood. The study of Old Testament offerings will allow us to know the Lord’s heart more, know the qualities that He wants to form in us, and understand the way of the cross that comprises the way of the deliverance of our sinful condition. Our ability to sacrifice will be determined by the love that we demonstrate toward the Lord, which will lead us to surrender all to Him without reserve.
